This paper analyzed sword with ringed pommel and dragon and phoenix design integrating the most production technologies among artefacts excavated in Korean peninsular of the period of three kingdoms and in Japan and examined various hypothesis estimated from observing artefacts. The study started based on hope that new research may be possible if focusing on tools, craftsmen and expertise by observing artefacts though many of production technologies pointed out previously are based on the types of artefacts.
Chapter Ⅱ complied sword with ringed pommel and dragon and phoenix design and set shapes. The shape of sword is set focusing on ringed pommel and handle and ornament of handle, and analyzed by classifying into shape property and production technology property. The results showed that sword with ringed pommel and dragon and phoenix design can be set in total of 4 shapes. Then attempted to chronologically record each shape. The study only estimated the period of existence of the sword based on the years of tombs where the sword is excavated since there is only one sword from the tomb of King Muryeong whose absolute age can be estimated.
Chapter Ⅲ examined the lines of each type and spread of technologies based on production technologies analyzed from Chapter Ⅱ. The line of each type is estimated by analyzing distribution of swords and production technologies. The results showed that type A and B are sword originated from Baekje, type C is originated from Daegaya, type D is produced jointed between craftsmen of Baekje and Daegaya. The reason for sudden appearance of many swords with ringed pommel and dragon and phoenix design of Daegaya origin in complete form starting from Okjeon M3 tomb near the end of 5th Century by analyzing production technologies of each type was understood that production technologies were completed by accepting technologies for type A and B from Baekje and combining with unique technologies of Daegaya.
Chapter Ⅳ tried to approach cooperation based on deduction from spreading of technologies and type D sword. The study focused on expertise which are repetitive actions of craftsmen and tool marks remaining on artefacts from a new archaeological view recognizing craftsman. The study examined whether production of sword with ringed pommel and dragon and phoenix design was done in cooperation or through division of labor and examined succession of Korean inlay technology.
As seen from the above, the paper examined the lines of each sword, production locations and spreading of technologies in overall production technologies by observing sword with ringed pommel and dragon and phoenix design from three kingdoms period. The study is meaningful that the study tried to approach on cooperation, division of labor and succession of technologies by focusing on production technologies.
