This study intends to propose administrative standards for the institutionalization of city farming systems in Urban Management Plan and vitalize the agriculture in urbanized area.
The study includes case studies of foreign examples such as Allotment in UK, Klein Garten in Germany, City farms in Japan, Community Gardens in Canada weekend farms in Korea.
In this study, we analyzed as well the case of South Korea''s position on urban farming presence.
Assumptions and equations in the presence of urban farming systems by induction, Analysis by comparing the results of locational criteria were set on urban farming.
This study analyzed the present status of foreign cities and cities of Korea.
And finally, it used three hypotheses to deduct location criteria equations generally applicable to urban farming.
Along with it, the results of this study could be grafted one of the ways to incorporate the results of this study into the institutional aspects of urban planning of the farming system in cities.
The results of this study shall be summarized as set forth below. Firstly, the distance between the locations of city farming sites was found to be inversely proportional to the population density.
Secondly, as the result of analysis on Seoul, it may be desirable to set up the location standards as follows: garden area ratio in urbanized area is 0.12% of city area, average garden area per capita is 0.07㎡, and distance between sites is 965m which is suitable to walk.
This study will propose ways of planning urban space, including locational criteria of urban farming system (basic urban planning, land use planning, the district unit planning, city planning facilities (parks and recreation), construction permits).
We hope that this study could provide the future basis of a set of standards to be implemented at the time of the introduction of city farming in urban management plan.
