Continuous population growth is giving us some tasks. Rapidly growing demand cannot be handled by limited resources and the resulting emergence of the era of high oil price and environmental problems such as air pollution have made a situation craving for the need for new transportation system. Therefore, high-speed maglev trains which can accommodate many people and are eco-friendly, faster and satisfy both durability and safety are being actively studied recently. Korea, which is a newcomer in research on high speed maglev train followed by Germany and Japan, is putting spurs on propulsion system research of maglev train and actively conducting research on LSM, the core technology of the propulsion system.
LSM operating at a high speed is highly likely to cause thermal problems and therefore, EM-LSM that designed mover with coils is better than PM-LSM using a permanent magnet in terms of safety and durability. Also, since the field is made up of winding, there are a variety of operating characteristics by increased control freedom degree depending on field current and it is less affected by environmental factors so EM-LSM is more suitable for LSM for high-speed maglev train than PM-LSM
Starting with the load estimation process, this study showed the basic design process of EM-LSM in detail such as figure derivation of a field and stator and analyzed the characteristics of the base model obtained from the basic design process with FEM. Also, in order to improve the thrust of the base model and the characteristics of levitation force, sensitivity analysis was performed and performance was improved slightly but still much thrust and ripple component of levitation force were found. Therefore, in order to offset reverse thrust component by harmonic waves, skew was applied to the Teeth part of mover which can be actually made and skew analysis method was proposed in a two-dimensional way. If analyzing 3D model with FEM by applying skew, a lot of inconvenience should be accepted such as frequent errors during simulation and long analysis time etc. and therefore, the two-dimensional skew analysis is expected to solve this part. Also, large effects are expected when operating based on LSM because the pulsating component of thrust causes the difficulty of controlling levitation force and worsens ride comfort of maglev trains and becomes the leading cause of noise and vibration.
