The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of participation in an after-school basketball sports club on body composition, physical fitness, and growth hormone in obese elementary school boys. The results were as follows.

1. The change of body composition was significantly different in weight(p<.001) and BMI(p<.001) of the exercise group, suggesting that participating in a basketball club positively changed obese elementary boys'' body composition. No significant difference was found in the control group.

2. The change of physical fitness was significantly different in strength(p<.001), muscular endurance(p<.001), flexibility(p<.001), and cardiorespiratory endurance(p<.001) of the exercise group, suggesting that participating in a basketball club positively improved obese elementary boys'' physical fitness. No significant difference was found in the control group.

3. The change of growth hormone was significantly different for the exercise group(p<.001), suggesting that participating in a basketball club positively increased obese elementary boys'' growth hormone. No significant difference was found in the control group.

Based on the results, regular participation in a basketball club had effects of decreasing weight and BMI, preventing metabolic syndrome, improving physical fitness, and increasing growth hormone.
Further research should focus on the pervasion of a variety of exercise programs for obese children to enjoy exercise with fun and excitement. When school increases physical education activity for students to continue constant body activity, obesity can be prevented and students can enjoy healthy and exciting school life.
