Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common respiratory condition involving the airways and characterized by airflow limitation. COPD is an important cause of morbidity, mortality, and health-care costs. With Smoking, occupational exposure is an important risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Evaluation of occupational COPD demands an accurate diagnosis of COPD and exposure history of the relevant occupational hazards. Spirometry for pulmonary function test is the cornerstone of the diagnostic evaluation of patients with suspected COPD. This study analysed spirometry of shipbuilding company 10597 male workers. Hazard direct exposure workers were 3901(36.8%) men, indirect exposure were 4321(40.8%). Functional decline of spirometry defined FEV1/FVC <70% and Logistic regression for workyear and smoking and occupational hazard exposure was performed. Statistically significant results of over 10 packyear current smoker group were odds ratio 1.42, over 10 year direct exposure group were 1.72, over 10 year indirect exposure 2.39. Occupational COPD is insidious and chronic, thus long-term hazard exposure shipyard workers with functional decline spirometry need to prevent and manage COPD.
