The purpose of this study is to provide foundational material for follow-up research on the department of Taekwondo by examining the effects on the team climate, cohesion, and member satisfaction regarding students of Taekwondo and analyzing causality among the factors. To attain the goal, the study selected as its subjects the students of Taekwondo studying in the department of Taekwondo in Busan ? Gyeongnam area presently in 2013 and used valid samples about 357 students for analysis through purposeful sampling. The questionnaire used in this study consists of 5 questions about demographic characteristics, 19 questions about team climate, 4 questions about cohesion, and 5 questions about member satisfaction, so total 32 questions. As a method of data analysis for hypothesis verification, SPSS Ver. 21.0 was utilized to conduct exploratory factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple-regression analysis. Based on the study purpose, study method, and data analysis, the study has gained the following results:
1. The difference of team climate, cohesion, and member satisfaction regarding demographic characteristics
1) The difference of team climate, cohesion, and member satisfaction regarding sex
First, the team climate regarding sex was higher in men than women in terms of organizational characteristics. Second, cohesion did not indicate significant difference in terms of sex. Third, member satisfaction did not show any significant difference by sex.
2) The difference of team climate, cohesion, and member satisfaction regarding Dan
First, about the team climate according to their Dan, low-Dan and intermediate-Dan were found to be higher than high-Dan in terms of leader characteristics. Second, there was no significant difference in cohesion according to Dan. Third, regarding member satisfaction according to their Dan, low-Dan and intermediate-Dan were found to be higher than high-Dan in terms of task performance, and low-Dan and intermediate-Dan were higher than high-Dan in interaction, too,.
3) The difference of team climate, cohesion, and member satisfaction regarding training hours
First, about the team climate according to their training hours, ‘over 4 hours’ and ‘less than 2 hours’ groups were higher than ‘2 to 4 hours’ group in the subfactors of job characteristics, relational characteristics, leader characteristics, and organizational characteristics. Second, there was no significant difference in terms of cohesion according to their training hours. Third, there was no significant difference in member satisfaction according to their training hours.
2. The effects of team climate on cohesion
First, it was shown that the job characteristics and leader characteristics of team climate exerted positive effects on cohesion.
3. The effects of team climate on member satisfaction
First, the job characteristics, leader characteristics, and organizational characteristics of team climate showed positive effects on the task performance of member satisfaction. Second, the job characteristics, leader characteristics, and organizational characteristics of team climate indicated positive effects on the interaction of member satisfaction.
4. The effects of cohesion on member satisfaction
First, cohesion was found to show positive effects on the task performance of member satisfaction. Second, cohesion was found to exert positive effects on the interaction of member satisfaction.
