This research had been accomplished to replace or check the Japanese F1 varieties which are cultivated and increasing their cultivation area. The research goal is focused on breeding F1 using cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) in welsh onion. In order to produce commercial F1 hybrid, the genetic materials which were collected Japan and China in 1997, and possessing inbred lines were used. W.T. lines from Japan showed 100% MS, after making fertility analysis combination using a number of pollen parents, result from next generation fertility analyze, all combination of W.T-MS maternal line showed 100% sterilizing is confirmed MS materials acting by CMS. Among them, it was judged that the combination SP7108-6ms/NA 157 is highly similar with parental gene in horticulture, made CMS line using continuous back crossing for fast line establishment by 1 generation per year, at last we confirmed SP7108-6-2-1-2-1-0 as the name of line.
Among BJ line(SP7140-2), paternal line collected in China, selected and established continuously deep colored, good leaf adherence and cold resistant had been named SP7140-2-1-3-1-0 as name of line.
Crossing combination had been made with these lines, S&P7102, judging from the result of next generation test and grower field test, there are many major characteristic. They are erection type which is good for covering root to lengthen leaf sheath, good marketability because of long leaf sheath and dark green leaf, good heat and cold tolerance because of strong plant type that make be possible to cultivate high temperature season and winter through it also prolong the period of harvest, as well as uniformity of type of leaf adherence, uniformity of thick and long leaf sheath which make raise commercialization and good bulky form, having majority of high yield. we gave name ‘Hwanghu’ to S&P7102, enrolled variety protecting registration. In case of seed production test comparing pollination ratio of each insect pollinators, Lucilia illustris had high pollination ratio, Bombus terrestirs had been followed. In case of overseas seed production test had been evaluated that having economical value with 43.8kg/10a.
