The silver generation of the modern society will lead the silver fashion market with their high interest in fashion and purchasing power. The aim of the current study is to categorize blouse designed for silver generation according to the types and to analyze the design characteristics of each blouse and to develop module design. The study will provide the preliminary data on the blouse design for the silver generation, by analyzing design elements such as silhouette, pattern, material, inside composition line and decoration and by developing module design, especially in shirt blouse, pullover-shirt blouse, t-shirt blouse, tunic blouse.
Brands were selected in order to collect product pictures used in this study, with reference to Brand Yearbook. After selection of domestic and foreign brands, 840 pictures were collected from on-line shopping malls and websites of the fashion brands from October 2013 to July 2014. Based on the criteria of previous literature, the types of 840 pieces of domestic and foreign brands’ blouses were categorized into Shirt Blouse, Pullover-Shirt Blouse, T-shirt Blouse and Tunic Blouse, except three other types with limited data. As methods of data analysis, content analysis and statistical analysis were used.
The result of this study is as follows.
The similarities of shirt blouses both in domestic and foreign brands are the use of square silhouette, plain pattern, stiff texture, shirt collar, set-in sleeves, and functional trimming. On the contrary, differences are identified; realistic pattern was used a lot in domestic while stylized or geometric pattern was most utilized in foreign brands.
In the design elements of pullover-shirt blouse, similarities between domestic and foreign brands are found in the use of square silhouette, plain pattern, soft texture, stand collar, round neckline, curved detail, and functional trimming. On the other hand, differences also were shown; while complex or realistic pattern was most utilized in domestic, geometric or artistic patterns was most utilized in overseas brands. In addition, unlike domestic, superficial detail is often used in foreign brands.
In terms of T-shirt blouse, design elements of both domestic and foreign brands were composed of square silhouette, plain pattern, soft texture, round neckline, set-in or kimono sleeves, and superficial detail. However, domestic brands used complex pattern frequently, whereas foreign brands utilized geometric and realistic pattern a lot.
Tunic blouses produced by domestic and foreign brands were common in triangle silhouette, soft texture, round neckline, set-in sleeves, superficial detail. On the contrary, differences were found in silhouette; square silhouette was identified a lot in local brands, while hourglass silhouette in foreign brands. Moreover complex or realistic pattern was most utilized in domestic, whereas plain and geometric patterns are most used in foreign.
