The purpose of this study was to quantify biomechanical characteristics of
smoothness and efficiency of mechanical energy transition in Yin-yang Bo gait
pattern. First, jerk cost function of Yin-yang Bo gait pattern about toe end ?point
and body COG end-point were calculated and then mechanical energy transition of
Yin-yang Bo gait pattern, from potential energy to kinetic energy was calculated. In
addition to two factors above, another three were added in the experiment to identify
biomechanical characteristics ; ankle, hip rotation angle, and knee flexion angle. Five
factors of expert performance group were compared to those of beginner group.
Healthy male subjects(n=12) participated in the experiment to perform Yin-yang Bo
gait pattern. Three-dimensional and force plate data were collected. Kinematic and
kinetic data were compared between two groups using independent t- tests. The
results showed that 1) range of ankle joint rotation angles was reduced in expert
group than beginner group, 2) knee flexion angles were maintained at more constant
degree in expert group than beginner group, 3) range of hip joint rotation angles was
increased more in expert group, 4) jerk cost of toe and COG were reduced more in
expert group than beginner group, 5) the rate of kinetic energy/potential energy in
expert group was lower than that of beginner group.
