Purpose : The purpose of this study is to compare the accuracy of the CT guided implant template (implant template) that was produced by using an oral scanner according to the edentulous distance.

Materials and methods : Five acrylic resin mandibles with teeth #15, #16, #17, #25, #26, #27 as missing were made using radiopaque resin. The mandibles were then scanned with CBCT and oral scanner. Six implants were planned for the treatment of the edentulous site using a 3D software program. The implants were inserted on the cast according to the CAD/CAM-fabricated implant template (In2Guide, Cybermed, CA, USA) and then were rescanned with CBCT. Presurgical and postsurgical CBCT Scans were superimposed to compare the virtual implant placement with the actual implant placement. The virtually planned and actually placed implant positions were compared for the apex, platform, and angle. SPSS Ver.19.0. was used for Kruskall-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test (P<.05).

Results : The mean angular deviation of the long axis of second premolar, first molar, second molar was 0.450±0.14°, 0.510±0.15° and 0.540±0.19°, respectively. The distance between the planned and placed implants was 0.230±0.06 mm, 0.270±0.09 mm, 0.480±0.12 mm at the platform and 0.390±0.06 mm, 0.430±0.06 mm, 0.640±0.07 mm at the apex, respectively.

Conclusion : There was no significant difference in the angular deviation of the long axis for each implant site. However, the distance between the planned and placed implants at the neck and apex showed less accuracy at the implant site of second molar.
