Objectives :
To examine clinical efficacy of PDO-embedding therapy in lumbar herniated intervertebral disc.
Methods :
Based on clinic charts, 10 lumbar herniated intervertebral disc patients who received treatment of PDO-embedding therapy were selected as research subjects. With VNRS and ODI, patients illness and disabilities were recorded in the chart. Referring to the elapsed time of embedding procedure, we categorized out subject patients progress into three groups. BET (before embedding treatment) group includes VNRS and ODI improvement rate of both admission and embedding procedure day. AET (after embedding treatment) Ⅰ group includes VNRS and ODI improvement rate of both embedding procedure day and 3rd day since commencement of the treatment. AET Ⅱ group includes VNRS and ODI improvement rate of both embedding procedure day and 6th day since commencement of the treatment. Wilcoxon signed rank test was utilized for evaluation of significance of VNRS and ODI improvement rate. 5 step scale was utilized for satisfaction evaluation after 3rd and 6th day of procedure. Correlation between 1st procedure day, times of procedure, patients satisfaction, VNRS, ODI improvement rate was calculated by Spearman''s rank order correlation.
Results :
1. Regarding comparison of VNRS improvement rate, AET Ⅰ, Ⅱ group showed significant difference compared to BET group.
2. Regarding comparison of ODI improvement rate, AET Ⅱ group only showed significant difference compared to BET group.
3. Patients satisfaction of treatment has increased with time elapse.
Conclusion :
The results of this study support the fact that PDO-embedding therapy in lumbar herniated intervertebral disc patients may reduce pain and show improvement of patients function.
