Recently, due to climate is changed rapidly that social demands on environment-friendly are growing. Steering systems such as EPS(Electric Power Steering) and EHPS(Electric Hydraulic Power Steering) are also developed on the Automotive industry to solve fuel problem. Hybrid electric steering system is that equipped with EPS, EHPS and complexly apply to it to improve on fuel efficiency by controlling assist force according to steering wheel torque.
In this study, HILS(Hardware In the Loop Simulation) system
construction is presented that regarding to commercial vehicle which be able to do driving at the virtual environment and equipped with the hybrid electric steering system. Moreover, reliability of the HILS is verified according to comparing mathematical model of the constructed ‘HILS’ system and measured data of that vehicle. To figure out for characteristics of steering system, J-turn test is conducted and also electric steering system which “HILS” is applied the to On-Center Handling are conducted to know about performance evaluation with Returnability tests.
Consequently, ‘HILS’ system can be used to analyze for control-parameters of the EPS, EHPS and also especially, contribute to maneuverability and stability of a vehicle. Besides the ‘HILS’ system can evaluate whole performance of the vehicle-steering system. Also it can attempt a test which could not be conducted on the real vehicle. Moreover, the ‘HILS’ system will be useful to develop for the control logic of EPS and EHPS systems.
