A Light is an important material which makes people see things, and it is also valuable as an aesthetic style. In modern times, people can do an aesthetic experience as the light is applied to the various arts by inducing people’s emotion. In this study, it is analyzed that the architecture and fashion has a relationship on the aesthetic characteristics of light by performing theoretical and empirical study. In theoretical study, a concept on aesthetics of light and scientific characteristics which affects to people’s psychology and emotions through domestic and foreign publications, literatures, newspapers and Internet Website. Also, the light is categorized by analyzing the aesthetic characteristics of light on Jean Nouvel Architecture and the history of fashion. In empirical study, examples of the light on modern fashion are analyzed through collections during the past 4 years, from 2012 S/S to 2015 F/W.
First, as a result of analyzing the aesthetic characteristic technique of light on Jean Nouvel Architecture, the light is classified into luster, reflection, transparency, luminescence, coexistence of light and darkness. The luster is a primary and bright color which stimulates the eyesight. The reflection glitters on the surface of materials. The transparency produces an visual effect by penetrating materials. The luminescence demonstrates an artificial light by utilizing electrical light bulbs, LED(Light Emitting Diode) and laser. The coexistence of light and darkness highlights the opposite characteristics each other.
Second, the aesthetic characteristics of light in fashion collection are analyzed. As a result, the splendid and fantastic image, H-shaped silhouette, primary, metallic and achromatic colors, silk, metallic, crystalline and chiffon fabric was predominant. In pattern and item, geometrical and sequin pattern and dress design was popular for the past 4 years.
At last, by comparing the aesthetic characters in fashion design and the characteristics of light on Jean Nouvel Architecture, the light is expressed equally on fashion and architecture. The fashion and architecture are the closest environment which fulfills people’s aesthetic desire and it makes people do an aesthetic experience of their sense and sight, as the aesthetic elements.
In conclusion, the light have been utilized as the important aesthetic medium in art and the aesthetic value of light have inspired in fashion and architecture since ancient times and it could be analyzed and recreated.
