This study was conducted to identify the influence of their knowledge of delirium and their self-confidence in delirium nursing on nursing performance of delirium, and to define the relations between the factors. In order to identify these factors, descriptive survey was adopted.
The study subjects are the 203 nurses working at general hospitals in Gwangju and Jeollanamdo. The survey had been conducted from May 24 to Jun. 4, 2016. The measurement that were used to investigate the factors affecting nursing performance for patients with delirium are nursing performance level for patients with delirium, knowledge of delirium, self-confidence in nursing performance for patients with delirium. The data were analyzed with SPSS 24.0 using frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson''s coefficient and linear regression analysis.
The study results are presented as follows:
Nursing performance level for patients with delirium was 2.85±0.47 points on average, knowledge of delirium nursing 32.49 ±4.51 points, and self-confidence in delirium nursing 52.00±17.05 points. The factors influencing nursing performance level for patients with delirium were found to be the path of delirium education, the necessity of education of delirium , the importance of delirium nursing, whether there is any nursing manual for delirium, knowledge of delirium and self-confidence in nursing performance for patients with delirium. Linear regression analysis revealed that self-confidence in nursing performance for patients with delirium had β=0.28 (p=.000), delirium nursing manual β=0.25 (p=.000) and knowledge about delirium hadβ0=.22 (p=.001), and the total explanatory power was 22%. It was found that the variables related to an improvement in the nursing performance for patients with delirium was the importance of delirium nursing, the necessity of delirium nursing, knowledge of delirium, self-confidence in nursing performance for patients with delirium, and delirium nursing manual. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account the variables. In addition, it was found that self-confidence in nursing performance for patients with delirium, delirium nursing manual, and knowledge of delirium influenced nursing performance for patients with delirium.
As shown in the study results, self-confidence in nursing performance for patients with delirium, delirium nursing manual and knowledge of delirium are the influential factors on the nursing performance for patients with delirium. Therefore, the suggestion made in this study is to plan a delirium nursing education program including the influential factors.
