ue to aging of the agricultural and mountain populations the labor force is reduced, however work intensity continues to increase, thus, there is a need to improve the current effectiveness of forest operations. This study compared and analyzed the work process and efficiency of planting potted seedlings using a battery-powered planting auger and a hoe. Tasks were investigated by analyzing the process and operation time needed to plant 1 potted seedling using a planting auger and a hoe. While the time spent on the various elements of the planting process were measured with a stopwatch the process was continuously observed. Result of the study shows that with the use of the planting auger it took 16.73 seconds to plant a potted seedling in Site A, 18.07 in Site B, and 21.03 seconds in Site C; while with the use of a hoe it took 21.46 seconds to plant a potted seedling in Site A, 23.46 seconds in Site B, and 32.96 in Site C which clearly demonstrates that the planting auger is more efficient in terms of working hours. Working intensity was also analyzed with the use of a portable heart rate monitor (Polar V800). The average increase in heart rate and work intensity index were analyzed for one planting cycle. It was observed that there was a 46.51% increase in the average heart rate when the planting auger was used and 74.67% when the hoe was used. In addition, work intensity index when the planting auger was used was 29.95% while when a hoe was used it was 47.83%. It is evident therefore that the use of a hoe significantly increases the average heart rate and work intensity index as compared to the use of the planting auger.
