The study of cattle manure solubilization has been increased for cattle manure volume reduction and enhancing the efficiency of anaerobic digestion. Microwave(MW)-assisted solubilization is an effective method for the pretreatment of cattle manure because of its high energy efficiency induced by dielectric heating of thermal, nonthermal and ionic conduction. In this study, the conditions of MW-assisted solubilization was optimized for the solid contents of cattle manure, power and target temperature of MW. And then the effects of chemical catalysts such as H2SO4, NaOH, NaCl and Food wastewater (FWW) on the MW-assisted solubilization and biogas yield of cattle manure were evaluated. The most energy efficient SCOD increase in MW-assisted solubilization of cattle manure was 70.5 mg SCODincrease/kJMW and this result was observed at 12% solid content of cattle manure, 800 W of MW power and 40℃ of target temperature. And FWW addition as chemical catalyst showed more higher SCOD increase than other catalysts. The SCOD increase for FWW added MW-assisted solubilization of cattle manure was 0.068 SCODincrease/VSinitial and this value was 54.5% higher than only MW-assisted solubilization. In BMP test, methane production for FWW added MW-assisted solubilization was also higher than other conditions with 0.226 L CH4/g VSremoved and this result was evaluated as 8.7% increase of methane production than only MW-assisted solubilization. Therefore, MW is a promising method for the solubilization of cattle manure and it could be feasible to apply FWW as chemical catalyst for MW-assisted solubilization of cattle manure to enhance MW efficiency.
