The purpose of this study is to investigate the flow regimes and behavior of air-water two-phase flow in horizontal pipes. So the experiment has been conducted to investigate the behavior of bubbles and the regime of the two-phase flow on various air-water flow conditions. Especially, in order to observe the air bubbles in the upper part of the pipes, experiments were performed using a two-phase flow sensor, which is a kind of electric conductivity meter. Using the measured data, the time for the bubble to pass through the probe was calculated, and the passage length corresponding to the size of the bubble was calculated through the passage time and cross-sectional averaged velocity. The criteria, which were established according to the length scales in horizontal pipes, become a boundary as dividing into fine bubble region, plug region, and elongated bubble region based on the bubble’s passage length. And through calculated bubble’s passage lengths and occurrence frequencies, components of the each bubble’s type could recognize and classify at each flow condition by using criteria. From the analysis of the experimental results, it was confirmed that the occurrence of fine bubbles, plugs, and elongated bubbles varies according to the air-water flux ratio. Also, it was confirmed that quantitative criteria that can distinguish the flow regime of air flow according to the fluxes or flux ratio of water and air can be derived.
