The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of the university students’ entrepreneurship support program on technology-based start-ups. Foundation, also known as “start-up”, involves the total progressive activities that contribute to the growth and the development of society, economy and culture. It is increasingly recognized as a concept that encompasses the means of creating new value areas and restructuring the knowledge-based economy. For small-scale start-ups to grow to a certain level, the entrepreneurship support program is an important factor in conjunction with the abilities of the entrepreneur, superiority of the product, market demand, and timeliness.
Institutional measures for start-ups include support for the individual entrepreneur, as well as assistance in areas of high uncertainty such as the discovery of entrepreneurs, the development of the entrepreneur’s skills, the provision of funds, and the role of safety nets in the case of start-up failure. The main subject in this study is the influence of Leading Universities for Start-Up Business Program, one of the largest entrepreneurship support programs in Korea, on the entrepreneurial intention of university students. This study contains both quantitative and qualitative research.
The quantitative research results are summarized as follows:
1) Entrepreneurial education support had a positive effect on the entrepreneurial intention. However, entrepreneurial concept development support had no positive effect on the entrepreneurial intention.
2) Entrepreneurial education support had a positive effect on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial self-efficacy. In addition, entrepreneurial concept development support had a positive effect on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial self-efficacy.
3) Both entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial self-efficacy had a positive effect on entrepreneurial intention.
4) Entrepreneurship mediated the relationship between entrepreneurial education support, entrepreneurial concept development support, and entrepreneurial intention. Furthermore, entrepreneurial self-efficacy mediated the relationship between entrepreneurial education support and entrepreneurial intention.
5) The participation factors had a partial moderating effect.
Also, Qualitative research results are summarized as follows:
1) Research participants regarded the Entrepreneurship Support Program (Leading Universities for Start-Up Business Program) as important for alleviating the irrationality and dissatisfaction in the current situation.
2) Leading Universities for Start-Up Business Program as the first step toward entrepreneurship, had influences on various factors such as satisfying the needs of the entrepreneur, acting as a catalyst for entrepreneurship, and providing a link to actual entrepreneurship.
3) The Entrepreneurship Support Program (Leading Universities for Start-Up Business Program) had a significant impact on the increase in entrepreneurial intention of participants and on the manifestation stage. It was found that entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention increased together in the process of the start-up materializing through the Entrepreneurship Support Program, and as the ideas possessed by the university students, and their products took shape visually.
