This study was conducted for estimating the breeding value(EBV) and genomic breeding value(GEBV) of the Hanwoo cows raising in the local farmhouse, and compare and analyze these data to build a genomic selection(GS) system for cows. The EBV of 428 heads of cows in the local farmhouse was analyzed by the BLUP method using pedigree and phenotype information. The pedigree data for estimating the breeding value were consisting of total 59,247, which up to 4 generations of 428 cows including the performance & progeny-tested steers at Livestock Improvement Main Center. The phenotype information was obtained from 16,741 progeny-steers. The GEBV for 428 estimated cows was analyzed by the GBLUP using 3,820 heads of reference population with phenotype and genomic information. Heritability was estimated to be 0.360, 0.443, 0.478, and 0.580 in carcass weight, eye muscle area, backfat thickness, and marbling score in BLUP analysis, GBLUP analysis was estimated to be 0.520, 0.413, 0.451, and 0.434, respectively. Accuracy of the EBV of 428 heads of cows for carcass weight, eye muscle area, backfat thickness, and marbling score was estimated to be 0.438, 0.454, 0.460 and 0.467, respectively, and GEBV was estimated to be 0.541, 0.509, 0.521, 0.515, respectively. As a result if prior selection was used by utilizing genomic information in the Hanwoo cows, it is expected that the genetic gain can be increased as a consequences of the relatively low breeding value and the shortening of the generation interval due to early selection. However, to utilize the genetic selection system efficiently, efforts to increase the number of reference groups will be needed to improve the accuracy of the genetic breeding value.
