본 연구는 일반 보와 단차가 있는 보에서 인장을 받는 확대머리철근 및 갈고리철근의 겹침이음상세를 제시하고 이에 대한 성능평가 실험을 진행하였다. 제안된 겹침이음상세는 일반 보의 경우, 확대머리주철근이 교차하게 상호 겹침이음 하였고, 단차 있는 보의 경우 춤이 작은 보는 고강도 확대머리 철근을 인장철근으로 사용하고 춤이 큰 보는 180° 표준갈고리의 인장철근을 적용하여 이를 춤이 큰 보 내에서 겹침이음하였다. 제시된 접합부 상세의 겹침이음성능 평가를 위하여 겹침이음 길이와 겹침이음 구간내 스터럽 보강유무를 변수로 실험적 연구를 진행하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 일반 보의 경우 겹침 이음 구간 내 스터럽 무보강시 실험체가 최대내력 이후 취성적인 파괴거동을 나타낸 반면, 스터럽이 보강된 실험체에서는 연성적인 성질을 나타냈으나 실험 최대내력이 이론 최대내력에 미치지 못하게 나타났다. 단차 있는 보의 경우 모든 실험체에서 연성적인 거동을 보였고, 실험 최대내력이 이론 최대내력에 비하여 크게 나타나, 단차 있는 보의 실험결과로 미루어볼 때, 본 실험의 이음길이에 준하게 확보한 경우 겹침 이음설계 시 갈고리 철근을 대체하여 확대 머리 철근을 사용하여도 내력확보 및 성능에 지장이 없을 것으로 보이고, KCI 2012, ACI 318에 규정되어 있는 설계규준식에 고강도 확대 머리 철근을 적용하여도 무리가 없을 것으로 보이며, 일반 보, 단차 있는 보 모두 겹침이음길이와 겹침이음구간내 보강상세는 겹침이음 내력에 독립적이지 않고 상호 연관성이 있는 것으로 평가되어, 겹침이음 길이 산정식 평가에 이를 고려하여야 할 것으로 사료된다.
