An Empirical Study on the Effect of the Characteristics of Freight Cargo / Carrier / Consignee on Freight Rate : Focused on Air Import Freight

Trade accounts for the largest portion of the Korean economy. Since Korea has an economic structure that imports raw materials, processes, and exports, fare is the most important competitiveness factor in exports. In addition, even though the size of air cargo transportation in Korea has grown rapidly in the fast-moving trade, there is not enough information about it yet. This research provides information on fast growing air cargo and air cargo rates. In addition, Cargo, Carrier, and Consignee are grouped to analyze the factors affecting freight rates to minimize the fluctuation of contracted fares and actual fare. Furthermore, a way for consignee to improve the satisfaction of transportation service is suggested.
A survey was conducted on companies that import cargo as a research method, and an empirical analysis was conducted.
It has been found that the relationship between freight characteristics and freight rate fluctuations is important to provide accurate information on cargo as result of analysis, and the relationship between the characteristics of the carrier and freight fluctuation indicates that more research on the uncertainty of Basic rate is needed. The relationship between the characteristics of consignee and freight fluctuations were analyzed to be significant in the competence of the consignee.
Practical factors that can reduce contract freight and actual freight deviation is suggested through this study, so it can be provided as a data to increase the efficiency of the work for the precisians. It is meaningful that it can be used as a review data in policy support logistics expenses for small and medium enterprises provided by government agencies.
