이 연구의 목적은 중간아이로 살아온 음악치료사가 자신의 삶을 수용하고 성찰하여 직업적 발달을 이루는 것이다. 이를 위하여 중간아이이자 음악치료사 훈련과정에 놓여있는 연구자의 직업적 발달과정을 자문화기술지의 연구방법을 통하여 분석하고 기술하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구자가 중간아이로 살아오면서 경험한 어려움과 타인에게 사랑받기 위해 노력을 기울였던 것은 한국의 가족문화에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 남아선호사상과 연관되어 있었다. 더불어 연구자는 남아선호사상의 영향으로 가려진 존재감을 드러내고 부모님의 사랑을 받고자 착하게 행동하면서 부모화를 경험하였음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 연구자는 음악치료사 훈련과정에서 거짓 자기를 인식하고 참 자기(Self)를 형성할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 연구자는 음악치료사로서 전문적인 성장을 할 수 있었으며 한국의 가족문화에 대한 깊은 탐색이 내담자에게도 이루어져야함을 알 수 있었다. 연구자는 이 연구의 결과를 통하여 개인이 사회문화적 배경에 대한 깊은 이해와 자기 성찰을 통해 음악치료사로서 발달해나가는 구체적이고 생생한 정보를 제공하는데 의의가 있다.
