Workplace abusive supervision has become a social issue and the purpose of this study was to identify the influence of supervisor’s abusive supervision on subordinates’ in-role behavior, organizational citizenship behavior, and deviant behavior and to further examine the mediating effects of perceived stress on the relationships and the moderating effects of perceived coworker support on relationship between abusive supervision and perceived stress.
The study design was a cross-sectional self-reported questionnaire and sampled 288 full-time employees. Data were conducted with SPSS 20 and AMOS 18 to empirically test the study hypotheses. As a result, this study found that perceived stress mediated the relationships between supervisor’s abusive supervision and subordinates’ in-role behavior, organizational citizenship behavior (OCBI, OCBO), and deviant behavior.
And the study found that perceived coworker support moderated the relationship between abusive supervision and perceived stress.
In addition, supplementary analysis was conducted to test whether the study model supported a mediated moderation model. The study found significant effects of mediated moderation of perceived stress with PCS on relationship between abusive supervision and OCBI and in-role behavior while it did not find significant effects of mediated moderation of perceived stress with PCS on relationship between abusive supervision and OCBO and deviant behavior.
