As medical data become valuable materials for healthcare industry and research, secure sharing and patient''s self-sovereign ownership of data also become important.But existing electronic medical record systems have several problems. First, almost all data are stored and managed by centralized organizations like hospitals. So, it is impossible for a patient to manage access permissions to his/her own medical data even though the data belongs to the patient. Second, since centralized organizations manage all the medical record data, patients should rely on the security of an organization IT infrastructure. Third, all the medical record data are stored in digital forms, but cannot be send via online because of possible attacks on data integrity. So, if a patient wants to get his/her medical record, he/,she has to visit the hospital in person.
In this thesis, we propose a blockchain-based access control for medical data sharing. It provides four main functionalities: (1) comprehensive management of medical data among hospitals, (2) convenient data sharing process for doctor, patient, researcher and insurance company, (3) granular access control for medical data, (4) security and integrity of data in untrusted storage.
