국내 대부분의 조적조 건물은 내진설계 도입 이전에 지어졌으며 용도는 저층의 민간 주택이 큰 비율을 차지한다. 조적조 건물의 구조 특성상 횡력에 저항하는 능력이 극히 낮으므로 지진 발생 시 매우 취약하지만 대부분 내진설계가 이루어지지 않아 내진성능을 확보하기 어렵다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 조적조 건물 4개 동에 대해 에비평가와 2차 상세평가를 이용하여 내진성능을 평가하였다. 예비평가 결과 모든 해석모델이 붕괴수준으로 요구성능을 만족하지 못하였고, 2차 상세평가 결과 또한 대부분의 건물이 붕괴수준으로 판정되었으며 손상위치는 1층의 창호 부근의 벽체들이었고 모두 가로줄눈파괴에 의해 지배되는 벽체들이었다. ASCE41-17에 따라 변위계수법을 이용하여 보강량을 산정하였고 보강량은 손상된 벽체의 강성비에 의하여 배분되었다. 보강후 비선형정적해석을 실시한 결과 모델 2를 제외하고는 상층부에서 변형이 발생하며 요구성능을 만족하였다. 보강된 벽체의 변형을 고려하여 상층부를 탄성 모델링 한 후 재해석을 실시한 결과 보강량만큼 벽체의 전단력이 증가하였고 목표변위에 성능점이 산정되어 요구성능을 만족하였다.
