Because the electrolyte composition affects the microstructure in the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings, the influence of sodium phosphate (Na3PO4) on the porosity of surface of PEO coatings fabricated on the 6061 Al alloy was investigated. Accordingly, we used electrolytes with four different concentrations (3, 6, 9, 12 g L-1). The surface morphologies of the PEO coatings indicate that the PEO coatings formed from 9 g L-1 had the lowest porosity. Furthermore, the NaAlO2 sealing was carried out to remove micropores and cracks existing on the surface of PEO coatings. As a result, in addition to remove effectively micropores and cracks, the corrosion behavior of samples in 0.6 M NaCl solution shows that the sample after NaAlO2 sealing had the higher corrosion potential, and the lower corrosion current density than before.
