There are many active volcanoes that can affect the Korean Peninsula around the Korean Peninsula, and volcanic activity is increasing recently. When a volcano erupts, volcanic ash, one of the volcanic-product, is erupted into the atmosphere. Volcanic ash affects the atmospheric radiation process and can cause damage to terrestrial ecosystems such as society and economy by depositing to the ground. The ground deposition of volcanic ash is divided into dry deposition caused by gravity and wet deposition caused by precipitation, and the magnitude of volcanic ash damage is larger by wet deposition. The atmospheric diffusion model is a method to track volcanic ash, and is used by various organizations around the world as a working model to predict the impact of volcanic ash. In this study, the HYbrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model developed by NOAA as the atmospheric diffusion model was used, and information on atmospheric conditions around the Korean Peninsula was produced using the results of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model as input data. The scenario selected examples of synoptic patterns and precipitation in which volcanic ash erupted from a volcanic eruption could affect the Korean Peninsula. In the case of volcanoes, it was selected as Mt. Baekdu in North Korea, which can be affected by northeast wind in winter, and Sakurajima volcano in Kyushu, Japan, which can be affected by high pressure in the North Pacific Ocean in summer. For each selected case, the spread of volcanic ash in the atmosphere and deposition to the ground were analyzed, and when passing through an area where precipitation falls during the spread of volcanic ash, the amount of deposition falling on the ground of the Korean Peninsula was separately analyzed. In the precipitation zone, the wet deposition of volcanic ash was relatively larger than that of dry deposition, and there was a difference in the amount of volcanic ash deposited on the Korean Peninsula. It is expected that if a volcano erupts when precipitation falls, wet deposition will play an important role in the volcanic ash diffusion and deposition in the Korean Peninsula.
