In November 2020, 15 countries agreed to set up the world’s largest trading bloc. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership(RCEP) is the world''s largest mega FTA which has members including South Korea, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
This study focuses on the TBT of the electronics industry which is Korea''s largest export industry and focuses on the current status of TBT in major RCEP countries, as well as specific trade concerns(STCs).
At the current level, where RCEP was just signed and has not come into effect, it is meaningful to identify the characteristics of each country through the analysis of the STC case related to TBT in the electronics industry of RCEP, and to draw implications for easing TBT in the future. The discussion process of STC case provides implications for future TBT response and dispute resolution in the electronics industry.
The analysis of the STC makes it possible to more closely grasp the trends and characteristics of the trade policy of each country, and the WTO system and dispute resolution system are still important tools, suggesting the importance of using them to establish countermeasures. In addition, in the case of TBT, many STCs related to technical regulations, standards and conformity assessment procedures have been raised, so a policy like MRA that can achieve harmony among participating countries is needed.
