Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction and nursing organizational culture on burn out in integrated nursing care units nurses.
Methods: Data were collected from September 3 to October 2, 2020 with 170 in integrated nursing care units nurses from three general hospitals located in Seoul and Gyunggi province. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe?, Pearson Correlation and stepwise regression analysis.
Results: Burn out was significantly different according to turnover intention, job Satisfaction, health status. Burn out was positively correlated with compassion fatigue(r=.34, ρ<.001) and showed negatively correlated with compassion satisfaction(r=-.39, ρ<.001) and relation oriented culture(r=-.43, ρ<.001). Regression analysis revealed that compassion fatigue(β=.45, ρ<.001), compassion satisfaction(β=-.34, ρ<.001), relation oriented culture(β=-.13, ρ=.026) and age(β=-.12, ρ=.025) were significant variables affecting the burn out of Integrated nursing care services units nurses. The explained variance for burn out was 52.5%, and compassion fatigue was the most important factor in burn out of nurses.
Conclusion: This study identified compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, relation oriented culture and age as influencing factors for nurses’ burn out. Therefore, strategies to decrease compassion fatigue and to enhance compassion satisfaction and relation oriented culture for lower age nurses group are needed.
