In this age of local autonomy, every local city has been concentrating its efforts on organizing festivals which are based on its beautiful scenes and specialities, as a part of showing its own distinctions. This study attempted to analyze citizens' recognition of Yeongju City's representative scenes as recently Yeongju's Eight Scenesand Eight Products were designated. The results of this study are summarized as follows.
1) The analysis of Yeongju's scenes showed that Buseoksa Temple, Mt. Sobaeksan and Sosu Seowon were much recognized as representative scenes, while other scenic resources had a little recognition. It could be found, therefore, that citizens' recognition of scenic resources was focused on several scenic resources.
2) Most of scenic resources were more preferred by women than men, except Mt. Sobaeksan and Hibang Warerfall which men preferred more than women.
3) The analysis of reasons for preference of Yeongju's representative scenes revealed that history, scenic beauty and notedness have an important influence on Yeongju citizens' recognition of scenic resources.
4) It was found that in terms of question type, concrete questions accompanied with visual behavior were more effective than abstract questions in choosing representative scenic resources.
