This thesis is a study on developing stages by age of children narratives, making narratives of Korean children an object. To sum up the arguments, the results are as follows.
In the first place, children use narratives to express their own feelings, thoughts, and so on. Such narratives is revealed into four levels, viewing from plot structure. In the tales indicated as <level 0>, basically, the conflict is not taken shape. In the tales, <level 1>, the conflict is taken shape, the process of solving the conflict is not shown; the protagonist can't make an appropriate response to an external stimulus. In <level 2>, the conflict and his attempt to solve it is shaped, only to fail; as he can't show an appropriate problem-solving ability. In <level 3>, the conflict, an attempt of its solution, and achievement of it are shaped. At this level, the structure of tale is completed and unified, by making one conflict focused.
In the second place, the narratives of children shows a developing stage by age bracket. Above all, as they grows older, the tale has a distinctive feature of solving the conflict. And also, such increase shows a regular stage by age bracket. In the age from four age to six, <level 1> is shown dominantly, that is, shaping the conflict is distinctive. In the age from seven to eight, <level 2> and <level 3> are shown mixedly: the failure and success of solving the conflict. In the age from nine to ten, <level 3> is shown dominantly, that is, the success of solving the conflict is salient.
As discussed above, I try to establish a developing stage of narratives of children. However, this study is defined in plot structure. Keeping in view that components of the narratives is not only plot structure, there still remains a further inquiry into the developing stage of children's actual oral narration. The development of linguistic expression, shown in the narratives of children, is a good example. it belongs to one of further studies.
