This study is focused on academic vocabulary's character and necessity of academic vocabulary in korean education. It is necessary to clarify lexicology's system and vocabulary education's contents.
Academic vocabulary is a vocabulary that manages cognitive process and is widely distributed in a various academic field For instance, there are 구조(structure), 기능(function), 속성(attribute), 관계(relation) and the like. It is composed of word family within 1000 and the majority of words written in Chinese character. And Academic vocabulary have a character for 'Cognitiveness and Procedureness'
These words consist of a second vocabulary(二次語彙) and it's not perfectly acquired without intended teaching and leaning. But if it is acquired, it can raise text understanding's possibility.
The access of these words for students is low relatively, because these words are not used well in the spoken language. Students are usually trying to accomplish technical vocabulary in high school and university and that these words are not studied properly. but if we think that the purpose of the korean education is the increase of the power of thought, the understood of the academic vocabulary accurately is very helpful to the increase of the power of thought.
In order to be studied academic vocabulary efficiently, It is very important to prepare fully academic vocabulary list. This work will have to be proceeded.
