This dissertation is a research on the aspect of writing of the novels written by Oh Jung-hee. The novel of Oh Jung-hee accommodates speculation on the capitalistic routine in peculiar way. Since the novel of Oh Jung-hee focuses on extremely individualistic routine, official discourse is not revealed to the front. Notwithstanding, pursuing open style, intentionally destroying narrative structure and concentratively investigating internal consciousness, Oh Jung-hee describes the capitalistic contradiction of 1970's. Works to be analyzed are 『The River of Fire』and 『The Yard of Juvenility』.
First of all, this article pays attention to the writing as 'self-recognizing style'. Using sensory words, Oh Jung-hee attempts the 'alienation.' Especially, destroying the property of time, Oh Jung- hee searches the ambiguity of meaning. In addition, Oh Jung- hee deals with the issue of estrangement, the pathological phenomenon of capitalism by juxtaposing 'house' and 'road' in opposition. These techniques could be considered as a method of intellectual strategy of the author to surreptitiously reveal the social issues.
Meanwhile, criticism on modernity and aspect of embodying the entity were also examined. The discovery of ' ennui' and recognition on the barrenness of 'physical body' are devices which expose the symptom of life of peripheral persons who are excluded from modernistic space. The novel of Oh Jung-hee is meaningful in that it reveals the negative attributes of 1970' s through aesthetic strategy of modernism like this.
