This article is to explain the development of Honam Regionalism placing the focusing on its political identity. Political exclusion and economic discrimination on the Honam had been founded and occasionally criticized in the 1960's and after, but, at that time, the exclusion and discrimination did not lead to the logic of regional alignment and resistance. "The 5.18 KwangJu Incident of 1980" hecame a historical event through which political identity among the Honam voters was constructed. In the tragic incident, those who have faced undiscriminative terror by state power had come to perceive their interdependent fate experiencing an absolute violence and deprivation by only reason of "being in Kwangju" in that time. That can be called "perception of a fate community," which is epistemological foundation of political identity, analytically chfferentiated from other region's alignment based on a region-oriented interests. It is argued that the Honam voters has shown that their strong coordinative power through elections beyond their class and status differences, meanwhile other region's voters had floated according to political situation and regional interests. With the regional-biased power structure and the winner-take-all system unchanged after Kim Daejung regime, power competition between these regional parties has been getting more intensive by the pseudo political identrfication of the Youngnam voters.
