This paper shows the process of new military authorities’ entrance on political stage, that is the process that the coup d’etat power with Chun, Doowhan, the main character of the coup d’etat took the political power in Korea. That is to say that this research is focused on the military dictatorship to show the political meaning of the ‘12·12 Coup d’etat’.The chronical range of this research is from the ‘10·26 Event’ to the ‘12·12Coup d’etat’ and the main points of this research are the process of new military authorities appearance, and the background and political meaning of the ‘12·12Coup d’etat’. The method of research is comparative and analytical study of the‘12·12 Coup d’etat’ with the ‘5·16 Coup d’etat’.The ‘12·12 Coup d’etat’ means the political event that the new military authorities’ attempted the catch of political power holding the national critical information and picking up Jeong, Senghwa, the then chief martial law administrator on the suspicion of murder of Park, Jeonghee after the ‘10·26Event’. This means that new military authorities with Chun, Doowhan hold the political power using the method of Coup d’etat’ on the contrary of the people’sex pectation for Korea’s democratization.
The ‘12·12 Coup d’etat’ performed with the overpowering of upper by lower in military class, which means that the military authorities took the political power pressing or removing the civilian political power. After all, the ‘12·12 Coup d’etat’ military power tried to justify the catch of the political power with the processes of constitutional revision and nation alelection. The military authorities, however, relied on the military power instead of the national consensus to stay in political power with the absence of legitimacy in taking the power. The military authorities destroyed the constitutional orderil legally and appeared on political stage on the contrary of the people’sex pectation for Korea’s democratization, in result they remained big stain in the korea’s political history.
