This paper aims to suggest a desirable model of familism through the familial relationship represented in Lee Sung-bok's poetry. From a perspective of discourse subject, Lee Sung-bok's family members are divided into two levels of subjects. The first discourse subject is viewing the desire of father, mother, brother, sister as a son in a family. The second discourse subject is viewing the desire of his mother, wife, and child after he became a father in a family. What the poet perceived through the desire of the first family members was a selfish desire. Only the mother was revealed as a character of maternal desire who understood and tolerated the desire of others. What Levinas called 'the Otherness of the Other' was found in the second familial relationship after the poet experienced the familial relationship of the first subject. The Otherness of the Other functions to form the familial relationship of reciprocal living which can realize the desire of a subject without oppressing the desire of the Other. This is the desirable familial model that the poet hopes to create.
