The English reformation, while rendering a fundamental question, i.e., whether it can be identified authentically the English version of the pan-European reformation, represents a typical case of the overlapped character between the 'medieval' and the 'modern', or a mixture between the ecclesiastical and the secular in the 'making' of her own Established Church
The succreding 'Confessional age' in the European continent parallels the English denominational development process; both commonly characterizes the 'modem' contemporary schismatic ramifications inside the Universal Christian Church But in terms of the (secular) State - Church relationship in this new age, the English version of it shows more interactive and 'transitive' case than any other European ones. Rather slowly, but consistently hinged on the relation between the ' secular' and the 'ecclesiastical', the English Church or denominations give(s) us the significant clues for practical access to the mxiern ecclesiology at the least, and also for a more fundamental understanding of the politico-theological theme of the Reformation.
With the aim reviewing the post-Reformation in the English context, this article is to survey the proto-denominational relationships between the Reformation and the 18th century. It deals
with (1) the protestantism against the rise of nationalism and
absolutism in England, (2) the English reformation essentially as a political revolution, and (3) the rise of non-conformism in the background of the overall irreligion and immorality. Conclusively, it is indicated that despite the failure of the English via media, i.e., the typical English way of reformism, is rather relevant to a postulation toward a totally different religious movement - the Evangelical Revivalism
