This study investigated the history of the renaming of Chungcheong-do(忠淸道) and the office, "Geumyoung(錦營)", and its facility and manpower organization in the late Chosun Dynasty.
The name, Chungcheong-do was changed from Yangkwang-do (楊廣道) in 4th year of King Taejo(太祖) when reorganizing the provinces was taking place. In the late Chosun Dynasty, a temporary renaming of counties such as Chungju(忠州), Cheongju (淸州), Gongju(公州), and Hongju(洪州) happened most frequently in Chungcheong-do from among the eight provinces in the nation, according to the promotion and demotion of the status of the counties. Chungcheong Garnyoung(忠淸監營) was the office in Cheongju in the early Chosun Dynasty and it was changed to "Geumyoung" when it was moved to Gongju in the early 17th Century. Geumyoung moved several times even in the area of Gongju and finally settled near Mt. Bongwhang in the early 18th Century. The Gamyoung building was extended to almost twice in size, as 150 years passed. In Guernyoung in the 18th Century, there were six staffs assigned from the central government and 2,375 persons who were employed in the area.
Through the analysis of "Geumyoung Gongan(錦營公案)" in which the list of Gwanchalsa(觀察使) and Dosa(都事) of Chungcheong-do were recorded, dual posts of Gwanchalsa with the military general, the appointment process and working conditions, their status, and their final posts were researched in detail.
