Recently, cultural properties, esptrially, mountain walls, have actively been restored. The reason is that most of the walls reveal on the ground and have great visual effects. But, I think these current restoration works have many problems.
It is the most important in these restoration works to retain their original forms. The loss of their original forms is loss of their real significance, in that it is a new creative work So, I suggest that the works to restore the mountain walls be done, keeping in mind suggestions below;
First, not only mountain walls but also natural environment around the mountain walls should be preserved. At least, higher buildings and artificial structures will not stand around the mountain walls.
Second, it is necessary to take great care of basic facilities of mountain walls. The Baekje mountain walls are being constructed erec시y on the surface of the earth. but the Silla mountain walls are being constructed on the step covered with earth.
Third, it is necessary to be careful of the size and sha{:e of stones used in the wall construction. The Baekje mountain walls are
characteristic of constructing them by using rectangular cubes of stones.
Fourth, it is neressary to distinguish straight lines from curves of extema1 walls. The Silla mountain walls are characteristic of curves of external walls, while the Baekje mountain walls consist of straight lines.
Restoration is to reproduce the original form For this, the future restoration works of walls will be made, keeping in mind the characteristics presented above. This accurate restoration of walls is just the best way to preserve the walls.
