In this article, the author intends to explain the nature of some specific campaigns that continued during early 1922(late January and early February to be exact). The campaigns either supported the idea of holding a society-wide funeral for Kim Yun Shik, or stood against it.
The political factions that led the committee for arranging a society-wide funeral service for Kim Yun Shik were the Giho region's Nationalist faction, and the Shanghai-based Socialist community. The committee itself served as a temporary tool of alliance for those two factions.
On the other hand, those who stood against the idea or efforts to arrange a society-wide funeral were the newly arisen Socialists other than those of the Shanghai-based community. Four Socialist organizations rejecting the Shanghai community's policy of constructing a unified front against the enemies, joined the campaign denying the validity of arranging such occasion. Those four groups were the Joseon Communist party(Neutral Party), Social Revolution Party(Seoul faction), Joseon Communists Organization in Japan, and the Joseon Division of the Goryeo Communist party(Irkutsk faction).
The nature of the compaign which rejected the society-wide funeral for Kim Yun Shik was rather multi-layered. First, the negative campaign was basically another form of a class strife in which the newly arisen Socialists were against the Bourgeois Nationalists. Those Socialist newcomers did not recognize the Nationalists of the colonized Joseon as partners in their anti-Japanese efforts.
Secondly, the campaign itself represented an internal struggle, a power game inside the Socialists's front. It was essentially an anti-Shanghai community movement, launched by the new-coming Socialist groups which were against the Unified National front policy of the Shanghai-based Communist party. And with this campaign, the control that the Shanghai-based Communist party had had over the domestic Socialist movements inside Joseon was indeed weakened. Subsequently, the authority of the Socialist newcomers was strengthened.
