The purpose of this study is to explore the aspects of conceptualization of 'ashamedness' revealed in some texts of novels through experientialism and folk models of cognitive linguistics. The results are as follows :
First, metonymic aspects of 'ashamedness' are based on our bodily parts. The external bodily symptoms of 'ashamedness' appear in 86 ways on 19 parts such as head, face(eolgul/nat), forehead, cheek, temple, eyes, nose, ears mouth, lips, chin, nape, neck, shoulder, trunk, waist hands, and feet. And the main parts of the response are face(eolgul/nat), trunk, shoulder, ears, and neck.
Second, the internal bodily syndromes of 'ashamedness' turns up in 7 ways on the parts of head and heart, and the main part of response is heart. And the feeling of 'ashamedness' is far more restricted than any other major feeling in the internal parts and ways of response,
Third, physiological characteristics of ‘ashamedness’ based on the bodily parts are an increase in bodily temperature, the reddening, lowering, constricting, shaking, and sweating of bodily parts, an abnormal syndrome of heart, unnatural behavior, and impediment in consciousness.
Fourth, metaphorical aspects of 'ashamedness' are revealed in 7 kinds of source areas such as liquid in a container, enemy, plant, food/alcoholic beverage, river water, and cloth. And 31 predicates are used, and those which have the most kinds of predicates are 'enemy' and 'things'.
In brief, the structures and meanings of conventional expressions related to 'ashamedness' have a close relation with our bodily and daily experience in their motivation, after examining the metonymic and metaphorical aspects of conceptualization of 'ashamedness'.
