Recently, the effort to purify the contaminated water has been continuously made in the country. Government has constructed projects for sewage disposal facilities as a part of water purity control policy to preserve water quality. The diffusion of the sewage disposal facilities being currently operated has reached 83% (301 completed facilities) up to 2006 as similar level as that of developed countries. In addition to the 301 completed facilities, the Ministry of the Environment has a plan to proceed other 153 sewage disposal facilities by investing 338.2 billion won in terms of Korean currency. From '02 to '05, the number of those facilities has increased from 190 to 301. The operating systems of the sewage disposal facilities are divided to direct management and private consignment management, and the use of only private consignment among two methods has increased from 64% to 69%. However, the operation method is simply selected by considering only the side of maintenance management cost without any other consideration like objectively identified cost difference between the operation systems. The reason for this is that the standard for selecting the operation method hasn't been specifically established up to now. The facility is difficult to be additionally expanded and changed by physical and geographical factors, once the facility is constructed. Also, the maintenance management cost depending on the operation method would be significantly different. Therefore, this paper analyzes the current status of the maintenance management cost for the sewage disposal facility in terms of the domestic operation method.
