This study aims to find the transformational characteristics of plot system in the urban spatial structure. The study area is JEONJU : one of the most traditional city in KOREA. The plot is not only the basic element of urban plan but also the elementary unit which accomodates urban life. The transformational process of plot system consists of plot addition and plot division. Urban planning and the change of urban conditions, such as social, economic, institutional situation and the like transform the morphological attributes of urban plan through the mechanism of plot addition and division. So, the study which is carried out on the basis of plot system in the evolutionary perspective is very important in understanding the changing process of physical urban spatial structure.
The main contents of this study can be summarized in two part. Firstly, the index which can measure the amount and the direction of change in the process of plot transformation : plot addition and division is established. Secondly, with these transformation index the characteristics of plot system in the study area are analysed.
