This study deals with the residential site planning of North Korea. For the enhancement of understanding of North Korean urban planning, the general consideration of socialist urban planning centering around U.S.S.R., is analyzed.
The principles of urban and site planning are examined and compared with those of U.S.S.R., and the differnece and similarity of planning principles are compared between South and North Korea.
The planning principles of two countries are quite different owing to the difference of ideology. However, the structural pattern of residential unit, layout and circulation of residential area are similar. Finally it is emphasized the suggestions of spatial equality which socialist planners have pursued.
