The study attempted to extract information about such detecting change in the land cover of Seoul using time series data of remote sensing as basic data in landscape planning using a landscape ecological approach.
For this purpose, we performed a classification of land cover after geometric collection using 5 scene of Landsat MSS data : 1979, 1983, 1988, 1992, 1996 for a change detection of each land cover. We also tried to compare the results of classification with statistical year book of Seoul to form an analysis of correlation tendencies.
The results are as follows : First, there was little diffrence between the result of classification and statistical data in the degree of correlation tendencies except for water body. Second, urban areas expanded agricultural areas and the peak of the increasing degree was from 1979 to 1983, specifically, 60.63㎢. Third, we could find that the agricultural land was transformed to urban land through existing barren land by investigating the spatial pattern on the changing process of image map classified. Fourth, the area of spatial distribution of forest land which was changed to urban land mainly occurred at Nowon-gu, Dobong-gu and Mapo-gu in Kangnam area. Also Kangdong-gu, Songpa-gu, Kangnam-gu and Guro-gu, Yangchon-gu in Kangbuk area experienced changes from 1979 to 1996. Fifth, Considering the changing of the forest land that was 46.52㎢ in Seoul, we need to consider the loss of biological diversity because of the fragmentation of forest land in landscape planning through an ecological landscape approach.
