황점볼락, Sebastes oblongus은 다른 양식 품종보다 저수온에 대해 내성이 강하고 고가의 남해안 특산품종으로 알려져 있다. 이들의 효율적인 종묘생산과 육종학적인 연구를 위하여 인위적인 성성숙 조절의 기초자료로서 성분화에 대해 먼저 조사하였다.
시원생식세포는 출산 후 2일, 전장 3.0 ㎜ 개체에서 장관과 중신 사이의 섬유성 간충직에 묻혀 식별되었다. 출산 후 71일의 치어에서, 생식소의 주변 부위에 강(cavity)을 형성하고 다수의 생식원세포로 구성된 생식소는 난소로 발달한다. 이 시기에 체세포들이 곡정세관을 형성하는 생식소는 정소로 분화된다. 초기 난모세포를 가지는 소형의 황점볼락은 출산 후 141일째의 치어들에서 나타났고, 정원세포 역시 이 시기에 관찰되었다. 따라서 황점볼락은 초기 성분화 단계에 자상을 거치지 않고 난소와 정소로 바로 분화되었다. 이들 종은 분화형의 자웅이체에 속한다.
