The main purpose of this study is to comprehend the changes and the reaction between sports events and TV broadcasting systems when pay television broadcasting services appeared in Great Britain and United States.
In Great Britain, the reality is that commercial broadcasting is coming with lots of money so the nation is going through problems with sports events and just normal TV broadcasting systems. Great Britain wants to keep the Universal' Excess Right to public but they are just having hard time.
British Sky Broadcasting Group and its subsidiaries offer pay television broadcasting services in the United Kingdom and Ireland. They made more than enough profit but they made the sudden rise in budget to broadcast sports events. Therefore to compete with pay television broadcasting services Great Britain made two groups which is A and B to keep the Universal' Excess Right to public. So when there are sports events are happening then either these two groups will take care of the broadcasting.
In United States, public broadcasting and cable TV are almost in equal terms. In 1998, public broadcastings, which are including NBC, ABC, and CBS, and cable TV, which is including ESPN, had a negotiation on National Football League's relay and the result was they signed a contract with NFL for $2,200,000,000/year. After this negotiation, the relationship between sports events and TV broadcasting services are very close than ever.
Great Britain and United States mind set for sports events and TV broadcasting services are different from each other. Great Britain is more with public and wants to keep the UniversalㆍExcess Right. But on the other hand, in United States, it is the battle between the broadcasting stations. However, in United States, each broadcasting stations give lots of services to televiewers when they are watching sports events. Such as paid programs and Pay Per View can watch for low price because of the rivalry between broadcasting stations. The peculiar is that sports events and the TV broadcasting's formations are changing in positive way for televiewers.
