The purpose of this study was to examines the effect of Octacosanol plus Branched-Chain Amino Acids(BCAA) compared to only Octacosanol adminstration on blood fatigue factor and endurance exercise capacity in human. The subjects of this study were 17 normal healthy males(university student 10 and high school sprinter 7) and all subjects were involved in each test. The seventeen male subjects randomized in to three groups (Placebo, Octacosanol, Octacosanol+BCAA) and after Placebo(water-OctacosanolㆍBCAA empty capsules), Octacosanol (water+Octacosanol+BCAA empty capsules), Octacosanol+BCAA(water+Octacosanol+BCAA) supplementation, the subjects performed exhaustive exercise on a treadmill. The Octacosanol (40㎎, 10㎎ × 4/day) was administration for 7 days and BCAA were compose L-valine 40%, L-leucine 35%, L-isoleucine 25%. The parameters related to the cadiorespiratory function were measured through incremental exercise testing to all-out before and after each treatment. Incremental maximal exercise tests were performed by each subject on a Taeha(korea) treadmill. VO₂max and VE, RQ, O₂pulse, AT, HR, RPE was measured on the tests breathed through breathing valves using Modify bruce protocol of MetaMax 3B(Metasoft 2, USA). Plasm was sampled from an antecubital vein using a hypodermic syringe at rest, post-exercise(all-out), recover 10min, recover 30min after exercise and analyzed for blood fatigue factor(Lactate, NH3, Phosphorous). The results were as follows :
1. The cardiorespiratory endurance were showed simultaneous administration of Octacosanol and BCAA significantly increased than Placebo, but not different only Octacosanol administration.
2. The endurance exercise capacity were showed simultaneous administration of Octacosanol and BCAA significantly increased. than Placebo, but not different only Octacosanol administration.
3. The Rating Perceived Exertion(RPE) during exercise were showed simultaneous administration of Octacosanol and BCAA significantly decreased than only Octacosanol administration and Placebo.
4. The blood fatigue factor(Lactate, NH₃) were showed simultaneous administration of Octacosanol and BCAA significantly decreased than only Octacosanol administration and Placebo.
In conclusion, Octacosanol+BCAA availability before exercise may have greater effects of ergogenic aids than dose only octacosanol adminstration and placebo.
