The purpose of this study was to examines the effect of cardiorespiratory function and fatigue factor on Octacosanol administration for 10days. The subjects of this study were 20 normal healthy males(octacosanol group, n=10 and placebo group, n=10) and all subjects were involved in each test. The Octacosanol(400㎎/capsule, 2capsules/day) was administration for 10 days and parameters related to the cadiorespiratory function were measured through incremental maximal exercise testing to all-out. Incremental maximal exercise tests were performed by each subject on a Taeha(korea) treadmill. VO₂max and VE, RQ, RR, O₂pulse, AT, HR was measured on the tests breathed through breathing valves using Bruce protocol of MetaMax 3B(Metasoft 2, USA). Plasma samples were collected at pre-exercise, post-exercise, 10min after incremental maximal exercise(Bruce protocol) and analyzed for blood lactate. The results were as follows :
1. Both VO₂max and RQmax were significant difference(p<.05) between Octacosanol group and placebo group.
2. Both O₂pulse and AT were significant difference(p<.05) between Octacosanol group and placebo group.
3. Peak value of Blood lactate at post-exercise(all-out) and recovery 10min after incremental maximal exercise were showed Octacosanol group lower than placebo exercise, but Octacosanol group and placebo group were not significant.
In conclusion, it is suggested that the administration of Octacosanol can be increased the cardiorespiratory function.
