〈Changiparangga〉 is presented as a means to emphasize Chungdamsa’s unmatched ability to write Hyangga(Shilla’s folk songs). This is confirmed in that King Kyongduk made only a brief comment about it though it contains many deep meanings. If it had had the intention of praising Gipa(King of Doctors), praying for the cure of King Kyongduk, or wishing for the birth of a prince like Gipa, it would have been regarded as having more serious purposes than 〈Anminga〉.
Apart from the profound meanings implicit in 〈Changiparangga〉, the statements found there are also markers that indicate Chungdamsa’s ability to compose Hyangga. They are divided into two kinds: one is a revealed one and the other is a hidden one. The revealed statement is that King Kyongduk himself demanded a song praying for ‘the welfare of the people’. The hidden statement is that he, recognizing Chundamsa’s ability, demanded him to write a song praying for ‘the welfare of the people’.
〈Changiparangga〉 has two functions. One is that King Kyongduk picked 〈Changiparangga〉 as a means to praise Chungdamsa and his ability to write Hyangga. The other, a hidden statement originating in Ilyeon’s intention, is that the song was written in order to renew Ilyeon’s warning for raising men of ability to higher position.
